OIKOS AT BREAKNECK GORGE
All of us, at some point, have dreamt of living in an award-winning, architecturally designed home, and Oikos, located in Hepburn, allows you to fulfil that dream, if just for a few days.
Set on an elevated, sprawling 18-hectare property, Oikos is a breathtaking architectural marvel. However, the pièce de résistance is the huge egg-shaped, black-cast concrete bath. Excuse us while we dream of hours spent relaxing here.

WHERE IS DAYLESFORD?
Beautiful Daylesford is located around an 1.5 hours north-west from Melbourne’s CBD, in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range.
It was first established as a gold-mining town in 1852, bringing wealth and prosperity to the region, much like the rest of western Victoria. Although the gold-mining days are long passed, the town is now famous for its spas, culinary scene, and contemporary art, and is one of Victoria’s premiere tourist towns.
HOW TO GET TO DAYLESFORD
From Melbourne, it's a 1.5 hour drive heading west along any of the Hume, Calder and Western highways, or via the Tullamarine freeway, to Daylesford (click here for a map). It's very well signposted (we didn't even get lost), so you shouldn't have any issues finding it.
Once in the area, there's a great network of back roads that weave through the region to the essential areas of interest.
HOW TO EXPLORE DAYLESFORD
Pretty much the only way to explore all of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs' attractions is via vehicle, whether your own rental or on a day trip from Melbourne if time is limited.
Here are a few of our fave options:
BY CAR
Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are perfect for an epic road trip from Melbourne. If you don’t own your own car, or if you’re a traveller in Australia and need to hire a car, we recommend booking through Rentalcars.com.

BY VAN
One of the most common sights you’ll see on Victorian roads is the bright green and purple branding of Jucy Rentals vans. #Vanlifing across the state is one of the most popular ways to discover the area — and is something we can personally vouch for having done the very same for a week back in 2017!
