THE BEST AREA TO STAY IN JAIPUR

Jaipur, like most cities in India, is a sprawling metropolis, and as such, a lot of the best hotels and haveli’s are scattered throughout the city’s boundaries.

Fortunately, while it’s sprawling, it’s not necessarily large, and a lot of the best hotels and areas to stay are located close to Jaipur's famous heritage sites and landmarks.

THE OLD CITY

One of the best areas to stay in Jaipur is the Old City, home to many of Jaipur's most famous attractions. The Old City is known for its narrow, winding streets and colourful bazaars, and is a great place to experience the city's unique culture and history.

Many of the city's best-rated heritage hotels are located here, so if you fancy staying in a palace (known as Haveli in India), this is your chance. However, many hotels in the area lack the elegance of a more modern-style establishment, so if you’re after a modern hotel room, it’s maybe best to look in the C Scheme area (listed below).

This is where we stayed during our visit to Jaipur, and we found it safe, wildly colourful, and exuding ambience.

C SCHEME AREA

C Scheme is the neighbourhood to stay in for those looking for upscale hotels, as the area is home to many of the city's best 5-star hotels, which offer luxury amenities and comfortable rooms.

It’s also home to a lot of the best hostels, so if you’re a backpacker visiting the city, this is where to look.

This residential area is known for its high-end restaurants, cafes and shopping areas, so is an ideal starting point for first-time visitors to Jaipur.

A great choice if you're looking for a more upscale and modern experience while in Jaipur, we highly recommend basing yourselves here.

RAJA PARK

Another popular area to stay is Raja Park. Known for its lively atmosphere, it’s a hugely popular shopping and dining destination, which makes it ideal for lovers of Rajasthan’s outrageously good culinary scene.

The Raja Park area is home to a number of popular markets, such as the Bapu Bazaar and Johri Bazaar, where you can find everything from traditional Indian clothes to jewellery and souvenirs.

Home to a variety of affordable to high-end hotels, you can’t go wrong staying in this part of the Pink City.

BANI PARK

If you're looking for a more peaceful and budget-friendly option, the suburban Bani Park area is a great choice.

The area is known for its peaceful atmosphere and is home to a number of budget-friendly hotels and guesthouses.

While in Bani Park you can also explore the nearby Sisodia Rani Palace and Garden, or enjoy a peaceful stroll in the nearby parks near Rambagh.

JAIPUR TRIP PLANNING ESSENTIALS

WHEN TO VISIT JAIPUR

The best time to visit Jaipur is between March - April, when the weather is pleasant (read: not too hot!), and the city is abuzz. This is, however, peak tourism season, so it can be busy (but isn’t everywhere in India?), especially at the main cultural attractions.

For this reason, we suggest exploring popular sights early, or later in the day to avoid the rush.

Wintertime (October to February) is also a favourite as the weather is cooler and dry.

WHAT TO DO IN JAIPUR

For all the details you need to plan your trip to India’s pink city, check out our comprehensive Jaipur travel guide, including the best things to do in Jaipur for the lowdown on what to do, where to eat, what to know before you go, and how to get there/around.

We’ve also a vast selection of guides on some of Jaipur’s main attractions, which you can read below:

HOW LONG SHOULD YOU SPEND IN JAIPUR

Jaipur is, without a doubt, one of the most wonderful Indian cities, so it’s plausible you may never want to leave. However, a minimum of 3 - 5 days is required to explore the city, feel its cultural rhythm, and see the majority of Jaipur attractions.

That being said, the main things to do in Jaipur can be done in just two days, especially if you’re part of a tour. But, you’ll certainly not gain a proper understanding of the rich culture and history that flows through the city’s streets.

HOW TO GET AROUND JAIPUR

Jaipur is a small city by Indian standards, however, it’s still large and can be hard to get around in parts. Thankfully, there are a number of transport options to get around the Pink City, including:

WALK

The Pink City of Jaipur is very walkable, however, if you want to explore further then the options below are best.

BUS

The local red JCTSL buses of Jaipur are the cheapest option. There are many bus routes located all over the city so they aren’t too hard to spot or navigate.

AUTO RICKSHAW

Autos are the most convenient and very affordable option to make your way around the city. You can hail one from the side of the street, at any location, any time of day or night.

TAXIS / UBER / OLA

Another convenient option is opting for a taxi, Uber or Ola. The price varies but is generally quite affordable - especially if split between a group.

RENT A CAR

At INR 1800 for a standard day, renting a car with a driver for a day is a great option - especially if you have limited time and want to get the most out of your day.

MOTORBIKE

The least popular option but still a good one, if you’re an experienced rider. At only INR 400 for a day of rental, this option is budget-friendly.

METRO

The least recommended option - the metro of Jaipur is in the works but is still not set to be completed until 2030.

You can go from Mansarovar to Chandpole Bazaar currently, however, I wouldn’t recommend it.

INDIA PACKING ESSENTIALS

Travelling through India comes with a unique set of needs.

To help you have a comfortable, happy journey, we recommend bringing the following items with you:

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL ADAPTER | You’ll need a European plug to keep your gear going!

POWER BANK | Don’t get caught out without power for your devices

EYE MASK | For those annoyingly early sunrises!

BIO-FRIENDLY TOILETRIES | Avoid damaging and chemical-heavy products and facial scrubs with microbeads altogether. We recommend Lush solid shampoo, conditioner and bodywash bars, ocean-friendly sunscreen (Stream2Sea), a mooncup is a great investment for “that” week and Lip balm for the sun
