Faroe Islands.

As for me, I am tormented with an everlasting itch for things remote. I love to sail forbidden seas, and land on barbarous coasts.

- Herman Melville | Moby Dick

The rugged, wild & beautiful Faroe Islands.

So wild, unpredictable, and achingly beautiful is the 18-island strong archipelago of the Faroe Islands - formed when volcanic rock thrust upwards from the North Atlantic’s depths - that it’s near impossible to adequately describe here.

See, no recording could ever do justice to the howling winds that sweep off the ocean. No photo could ever show the true scale of the jagged mountains that tower straight from the sea. And no brush could paint in the flecks of colour of grass-roofed villages that dot the shorelines; little safety beacons promising warm fires and steaming meals.

Driving (or ferrying!) from village to village and island to island was one of our favourite pastimes. From epic hikes to the isolated Kalsoy lighthouse and spotting endangered puffins on Mykines, to kayaking the freezing North Atlantic and devouring 12-course meals at Michelin-starred restaurant KOKS - the Faroe Islands left us in absolute awe at every turn.

You’ll often hear travellers talk about ‘the road less travelled’. The unbeaten track. Places that feel like the end of the world, like no man has gone before them.

Places like the Faroe Islands.

This is definitely one for the outdoorsy, unique adventure-loving folk. Those who like their travels a little rougher and a lot more unpredictable, and who don’t mind when thick fog rolls over their sunny day without warning.

Truthfully, if travelling to Earth’s most rugged and remote corners doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, the Faroes may not be your place. But for those who hold nature close to their hearts, this is the untouched wilderness you’ve been searching for.
